Shed a Tear came flying up the rail in the stretch to break his maiden by nearly two lengths in a 5 ½-furlong race on Sept. 30 at Delaware Park.
The 2-year-old Klimt colt is the 13th winner for his sire, the third-most on this year’s First-Crop sire list. Klimt also got his third stakes horse over the past weekend when Barone Cesco placed in the Hollywood Beach S. at Gulfstream Park.
Shed a Tear broke alertly and was in a five-way scramble for the early lead before backing off slightly. He continued to drop back on the turn, but then found his stride after straightening for home. He gobbled up the ground and rolled to the front in the final furlong to win going away in eye-catching fashion.
The winner was bred in Kentucky by Tom Lauritsen and Lee McMillin. The colt’s dam Exceptional Value has produced six winners, including the stakes-winning Cashel Rock and stakes-placed Military Legend. Shed a Tear is owned by Angel M. Ubarri.
